About Michael Halkos

Dr. Halkos is Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Emory Healthcare and Emory University School of Medicine and oversees cardiothoracic surgery programs at eight Emory Healthcare owned or affiliated hospitals.  He is an academic cardiac surgeon-scientist with expertise in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, specifically robotic mitral valve surgery, robotic-assisted coronary artery bypass surgery, hybrid coronary revascularization, and hybrid atrial fibrillation ablation. He also routinely performs traditional cardiac surgical procedures.

At Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital, Dr. Halkos and Douglas Murphy, MD, helm one of the largest and most successful robotic cardiac surgical programs in the world. He is also one of the highest volume surgeons in performing robotic coronary bypass procedures and an international leader in hybrid coronary revascularization. Dr. Halkos directs the Cardiothoracic Center for Clinical Research, which has served as the national and international PI site for several FDA investigational device exemption trials and has enrolled patients into numerous multicenter clinical trials in cardiac and thoracic surgery.
