FemaleAbout Britney Farmer
Dr. Britney Farmer is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with St. Francis-Emory Healthcare at the Bradley Center campus. While she is not a native of Georgia, she has made her home here with her family. Dr. Farmer is originally from Southern California where she lived with her parents and siblings. While in high school, she had a unique opportunity to be a foreign exchange student in Ghana, West Africa. The six months that she spent there gave her a passion for international aide and a grateful heart for all the luxuries of living in the United States. Growing up, Dr. Farmer was taught her work ethic from her parents. Her mother being an educator and her father owning and operating a trucking business. The early mornings and late nights that she observed, cemented in her mind that if anything is to be done right, it is to be done with your whole heart.
After graduating from high school, Dr. Farmer looked beyond California for her undergraduate education. It was important to her to branch out from her home state and be able to experience a different part of the country. She was accepted to attend Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She majored in Psychology with a Pre-Med minor. She was actively involved in the health careers program, knowing that she wanted to eventually pursue a career in this field. While in college, Dr. Farmer was active with student government, athletics, and the honors program. Her fondest memory from college was sitting in the student section of Morehouse College and cheering on the Maroon Tigers! She is an avid football fan and didn’t know that traveling to Columbus for the Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic would be a premonition of her future home.
Dr. Farmer was accepted to The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Once accepted, she was approached by the United States (U.S.) Army offering a scholarship to fund her medical education. While at Ohio State, she was unashamedly proclaiming her love for Psychiatry. Her favorite rotation in medical school was Pediatric Endocrinology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She felt so at home gathering history from children and working to build trust amid terrified children facing a new diagnosis.
Following medical school, Dr. Farmer attended residency with the U.S. Army at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. She completed her General Psychiatry training of three years and was accepted to a Child and Adolescent Fellowship which required two additional years. During her time there, Dr. Farmer treated cases of Major Depressive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Adjustment Disorder, Substance Use Disorders, Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
She attained her board certification in General Psychiatry in 2018 and her board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2019. Dr. Farmer was reassigned to Fort Moore (formally Fort Benning) for her next and final Army assignment. Being an Army physician has given her a myriad of experiences working with the specialized needs of military families. As a female Army veteran, Dr. Farmer looks forward to using these skills and experiences in serving the wider Columbus community.
